SA Water is a government enterprise, wholly owned by the Government of South Australia.
 

SA Water was established by the proclamation of the South Australian Water Corporation Act 1994 on 1 July 1995.

With our predecessor, the Engineering and Water Supply Department, we have a long history of service and commitment to the people of South Australia which can be traced back to 1856.

SA Water Facts

We provide water and wastewater services to approximately 1.5 million people in South Australia.

Managing water, wastewater, infrastructure assets and contracts is a significant part of our business.

SA Water owns assets of more than $9 billion, including:

• More than 26,000km of water mains
• More than 8 600km of sewer mains
• 30 water treatment plants
• 24 wastewater treatment plants

As one of Australia’s leading water utilities, we:

• Employ more than 1500 people
• Reuse about 20% of wastewater in metropolitan areas and almost 15% in country areas, mainly for irrigation purposes
• Are engaged in several unique outsourcing contracts

SA Water is responsible for assisting to develop the South Australian water industry. We also undertake work on behalf of the Murray Darling Basin Commission.

With more than 150 years experience, today we're working on some of the largest water security projects in the State's history like the Adelaide Desalination Project.
