SA Water has developed world-leading techniques to manage the State’s water resources in a sustainable way.
We are continually developing innovative and effective technologies and applications to manage scarce water resources, including:
In an average rainfall year, about 40% of the water resources used by SA Water come from the River Murray and in dry years this can be as high as 90%.
The management of these water resources is guided by the Murray Darling Basin Commission (MDBC) with representation from the Federal and State government agencies. The MDBC focuses on:
-
Surface and groundwater resources
-
Water use and the impact of storage and water regulation
-
Land use changes and wetlands
-
Land degradation and water quality
-
Agriculture and irrigation
-
Water and land salinity
-
Forestry and fisheries
