When is my meter read?

When should I have a special meter reading?
When a property is sold, it is usual for the land conveyancer responsible for the sale to arrange for a special reading of the water meter to be taken. This safeguards the purchaser against any water use charges that may be incurred before they take possession of the property.
A fee of $14.80 applies for special meter readings. If you need to make your own arrangements for a special meter reading call us on 1300 650 950.

What do I need to do if I’m buying a property?
When you buy a property, your conveyancer is required to advise you of the following information relating to the property:
-
Details of current charges and any balance outstanding
-
Information on future charges which may apply
-
Details of any encumbrances that may exist on the property
-
Conveyancers apply to SA Water for this information.
Can I get an allowance if the pipes on my property have been leaking?
SA Water may provide you with an allowance if you discover that you have had a concealed leak in your private residential or non-residential pipework. The allowance, equal to 50% of the estimated quantity of water wasted, may be granted if certain conditions are met.
If a concealed leak has occurred at your property you will need to complete an application form and provide SA Water with evidence of the leak and its repair by a licensed plumber. Call us on 1300 650 950 if you need assistance.
