SA Water is proud to be a founding member of WaterAID Australia - an international agency dedicated to empowering poor communities to secure access to clean water for life. Our responsibility extends beyond South Australia's boundaries. We are also members of a global community - and always willing to lend a hand to poorer communities struggling for access to clean water.
Over 1.1 billion people across the globe lack access to safe drinking water and 2.4 billion to adequate sanitation. As a result a child dies every 15 seconds from water related diseases.
WaterAID focuses on practical solutions that provide secure access to clean water and lasting benefits to poor communities and uses technologies that are affordable, appropriate to the local conditions and able to be operated and maintained by the local community.
Training is provided to local communities so that they can operate and maintain the water and sanitation systems themselves.
All projects integrate water, sanitation and hygiene education - which are essential to the lasting benefits for the people’s health and quality of life. This ensures that communities can sustain access to clean water on their own in the long term.
WaterAID Australia is a unique partnership between the water industry and the aid sector that creates synergies by adding the technical expertise and resources of the water industry to the development experience and knowledge of the overseas aid sector.
By joining in WaterAID campaigns, SA Water is playing a role in the life-saving work WaterAID does with some of the world’s poorest people.
