As legislation, regulations and standards are continually changing and evolving, we will provide information here to keep you informed.
Parts 0, 1.2, 2.2 and 4.2 of the Australian/New Zealand Standard 3500 have been revised and were republished as Parts 0, 1, 2 and 4 in late December 2003. The change in numbering is a result of the proposed introduction of the Plumbing Code of Australia which will include performance requirements for “Cold water services”, “Sanitary plumbing and drainage” and “Heated water services”.
It is anticipated that SA Water will adopt these revised Standards, with limited variations, in the second half of 2005.
SA Water does not have jurisdiction over stormwater drainage but be aware that AS/NZS 3500.3 has also been republished as a revision of AS/NZS 3500.3.2
Commonality between Parts of AS/NZS 3500
There are some requirements that are common to Parts 1, 2 and 4.
- Proximity to other services apply to Parts 1, 2 and 4. The requirements for installing water services, sanitary plumbing and drainage and heated water services in close proximity to other services has been expanded considerably.
- Concealed piping apply to Parts 1 and 4 and provides more detail relating to notching and drilling holes in studs, plates, beams, bearers, joists and rafters.
- Multi-unit developments apply to Parts 1 and 2. This is a new Section and relates to multi-development developments of 20 or more residential buildings up to three storeys in height (e.g. Community Title developments).
Change in terminology
- “potable water” changed to ‘drinking water’
- “non-potable water” changed to ‘non-drinking water’
- “hot water” changed to ‘heated water’
