Connection Of Basement Fixtures

New clause (Similar to SA variation)

“Fixtures installed in basements or other locations, where surcharge could damage the premises and contents, shall be connected to the sewerage system by means of a pumping installation complying with Section 10.”

 

Connections In Flood-Prone Areas

New clause has been added to cover requirements for plumbing and drainage inlets located above and below the declared flood level.

 

In areas subject to known flooding, the inlets of fixtures, fittings or appliances are to be installed at least 150 mm above the declared flood level.  If this is not achievable, discharges from fixtures, fittings or appliances are to be directed to the sewer via a pumping installation fitted with an automatic float control or similar device to ensure that the pump ceases to operate during periods of flooding.

Section 6 General Design Requirements For Sanitary Plumbing Systems

 

Air Admittance Valves

 

The use of air admittance valves has been extended to include stack and branch drain venting with the requirements for use listed under Clause 6.9.2.

 

Clause 6.9.2    Requirements for use

 

Shall only be used on systems that have at least one open upstream vent off the main drain.

 

Where more than one building on an allotment drains to a sewerage system, the sanitary drainage system of each building shall have one open upstream vent connected to its drain.

 

Shall comply with the minimum airflow capacity requirements of Table 6.6 (for trap, group and branch vents) and Table 6.7 (for stack vents)

 

Shall not be used as a stack vent where the stack extends through 10 or more floor levels.

 

Shall not be used on relief vents

 

Air admittance valves that form an integral part of a fixture trap shall only be used as a trap vent.

 

Section 11 Fixtures And Appliances

 

11.25.2.1 Wall–hung urinals

 

The requirements regarding the position of the floor waste gully has changed.

 

The floor of a room containing one or more wall-hung urinals shall grade to a floor waste gully.  Such floor waste gully shall be charged by either a waste fixture (see Table 4.4) or in accordance with Clause 4.6.8.”
