Dial Before You Dig

Whether you are planning a swimming pool in your backyard, or major development, or digging up the road or footpath, before any work commences you need to 'Dial Before You Dig'.

SA Water is one of a number of utilities which provide information through the 'Dial Before You Dig' one stop shop service. This means you can get advice about the location of any underground pipes and information about how to work safely while excavating all from one source.

How does Dial Before You Dig work?

After you contact 'Dial Before You Dig', you will be supplied with plans of the underground infrastructure or advised if there are not any pipes in the area. 'Dial Before You Dig' provides plans for most underground services including SA Water, Telstra, ETSA Utilities, Boral, Optus and EpicEnergy. SA Water only supplies the infrastructure plans for water, wastewater and recycled water. If you require a copy of the properties internal drainage layout please refer to the section on internal drainage plans below.

Dial Before You Dig’s service means that you do not have to contact each of the utilities and service providers separately, but will be provided with most plans at the same time. The plans are usually free of charge (some utilities may charge a fee but 'Dial Before You Dig' will notify you before this happens) and most plans are available within two working days.

How do I contact Dial Before You Dig?

By calling 1100 (free call), faxing your inquiry to 1300 652 077 or via the Dial Before You Dig website.

Why Should I contact the Dial Before You Dig service?

If you are found negligent by causing damage to the utility's underground services you may face fines. If you hit a pipe you could cause inconvenience, financial losses and disruption to the rest of the community. You may even be placing your life or the life of others in danger.

So take the time to Dial Before You Dig and work to live.

How Do I Obtain Internal Drainage Plans?

If you require copies of the internal drainage plans for your property, from the Government Inspection Point (GIP) located usually at the front boundary, to the house/building, please contact the Plan Unit, Customer Technical Services, by telephoning (08) 7424 1117.
