Country wastewater treatment plants
 

 

Wastewater services in regional South Australia are provided by wastewater treatment plants located around the State. We operate 19 of the 20 plants.

 

 

Angaston

 

Commissioned: 1962

Designed plant flow: 0.42 megalitres per day

Population served: over 1900

Mains: 19,965 metres

Serves the town of Angaston and the Penrice STED.

50% of treated wastewater recycled.

 

 

Bird-in-Hand Treatment Plant

 

Commissioned: 1965, upgraded 2011

Designed plant flow: 2.4 megalitres per day

Population served: over 3250

Mains: 30,744 metres.

Serves the towns of Lobethal, Woodside, Inverbrackie (Army Camp) and the Charleston STED

35% of treated wastewater recycled  in 2009/10
In 2011, the plant underwent a $60 million upgrade to improve the quality of wastewater discharged to Dawesley Creek.

 

Finger Point

 

Commissioned: 1989

Designed plant flow: 6 megalitres per day

Population served: over 23,300

Mains: 251,047 metres

Serves the regional city of Mount Gambier.

 

 

Gumeracha

 

Commissioned: 1965

Designed plant flow: 0.11 megalitres per day

Population served: over 640

Mains: 8537 metres

100% of treated wastewater recycled.

Serves the town of Gumeracha.

 

 

Hahndorf

 

Commissioned: 1977

Designed plant flow: 1.01 megalitres per day

Population served: 3330

Mains: 33,625 metres

Serves the towns of Balhannah, Hahndorf, Oakbank and the Verdun STED.

 

 

Heathfield

 

Commissioned: 1981, upgraded 2004

Designed plant flow: 2.40 megalitres per day

Population served: estimated about 6500

Mains: 108,382 metres

Serves the towns of Aldgate, Bridgewater, Crafers, Heathfield, Piccadilly and Stirling.

Heathfield underwent a $10 million upgrade in 2001-04 to improve its environmental performance.

 

 

Mannum

 

Commissioned: 1968

Designed plant flow: 1.83 megalitres per day (peak flow)

Population served: approximately 2200

Mains: 27,195 metres

100% of treated wastewater recycled.

Serves the town of Mannum.

 

 

Millicent

 

Commissioned: 1968

Plant flow: 1.44 megalitres per day

Population served: over 4430

Mains: 43,969 metres

20% of treated wastewater recycled in 2011/12

Serves the town of Millicent.

 

 

Mount Burr

 

Commissioned: 1963

Designed plant flow: 0.6 megalitres per day (peak flow)

Population served: over 370

Mains: 5606 metres

Serves the town of Mount Burr.

 

 

Murray Bridge

 

Commissioned: 1970

Designed plant flow: 5.31 megalitres per day (peak flow)

Population served: over 13,010

Mains: 106,264 metres

100% of treated wastewater recycled.

Serves the regional city of Murray Bridge.

 

 

Myponga

 

Commissioned: 1963

Designed plant flow: 0.05 megalitres per day

Population served: about 200

Mains: 5520 metres

100% of treated wastewater recycled

Serves the town of Myponga.

 

 

Nangwarry

 

Commissioned: 1963

Designed plant flow: 0.6 mega litres per day (peak flow)

Population served: over 480

Mains: 6231 metres

Serves the town of Nangwarry.

 

 

Naracoorte

 

Commissioned: 1961

Designed plant flow: 3.93 megalitres per day (peak flow)

Population served: over 4,780

Mains: 50,808 metres

Serves the town of Naracoorte.

 

 

Port Augusta East

 

Commissioned: 1981

Designed plant flow: 2.66 megalitres per day

Population served: about 5,000

Mains: combined with Port Augusta West 86,618 metres

Serves the eastern area of the regional city of Port Augusta.

 

 

Port Augusta West

 

Commissioned: 1977

Designed plant flow: 1.26 megalitres per day

Population served: about 3,500

Mains: combined with Port Augusta East 86,618 metres

99% of treated wastewater recycled in 2011/12

Serves the western area of the regional city of Port Augusta.

 

 

Port Lincoln

 

Commissioned: 1994

Designed plant flow: 4 megalitres per day

Population served: over 12,660

Mains: 131,927 metres

9% of treated wastewater recycled in 2011/12

Serves the regional city of Port Lincoln.

 

 

Port Pirie

 

Commissioned: 1971, upgraded 2005

Designed plant flow: 4.2 megalitres per day

Population served: over 13,260 

Mains: 115,055 metres.

Serves the regional city of Port Pirie.

 


Victor
Harbor (privately operated)

 

Commissioned: 2005

Designed plant flow: Stage 1 - 3.4 mega litres per day, Stage 2 - 5.1 mega litres per day

Population served: over 8,960

Mains: 137,349 metres

 

 

Whyalla Wastewater Treatment Plant

 

Commissioned: 1966

Designed plant flow: 6.9 megalitres per day

Population served: over 21,270

Mains: 164,318 metres

Recycling project nearing completion

Serves the regional city of Whyalla.



Whyalla Water Reclamation Plant

Commissioned: 2005
Designed plant flow: 3.6 megalitres per day
Provided 490 megalitres of recycled water in 20011/12 (representing 45% of Whyalla's wastewater).
Treats a portion of Whyalla's wastewater for reuse.
