SA Water is behind an innovative scheme bringing filtered water to communities across the State.

 

In 1996 Riverland Water was awarded a 27-year contract to finance, design, build and operate 10 new water treatment plants to bring filtered water to 100,000 South Australians in more than 90 rural communities.

 

This major country water quality improvement program is now delivering high quality filtered water to communities in the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Mid-North, Upper South-East and the larger towns along the River Murray.

 

The clear filtered water exceeds World Health Organisation standards and is produced using world’s best practice technologies with one of the most advanced control systems in the Australian water industry.

• Summit Storage
• Swan Reach
• Tailem Bend
• Waikerie

 

In 2025 ownership of the plants will revert from Riverland Water to SA Water.

 

 

Middle River Water Treatment Plant (WTP)

 

In 1998, a $2 million Middle River Filtration Plant on Kangaroo Island finally resolved the problem of poor quality water for a large area of the Island.

 

Located along the pipeline from the Middle River Reservoir, the plant can produce up to three million litres of filtered water every day and was an important development supporting the Island’s tourism and gourmet food industries.

 

 

Morgan Filtration Plant

 

The Morgan Filtration Plant was built to provide high quality water to the Upper Spencer Gulf and was completed in 1986 at a cost of $31 million.

 

The plant takes water directly from the River Murray and can produce 200 megalitres of filtered water per day which is transported via the Morgan-Whyalla Pipeline.
