Eight new Iron Removal Plants (IRPs) had been constructed as part of SA Water’s Country Water Improvement Program in towns across the Upper South East of South Australia:
-
Kalangadoo
-
Lameroo
-
Penola
-
Kingston
-
Beachport
-
Robe
-
Lucindale
-
Pinnaroo
While the presence of iron in water doesn’t pose a risk to human health, the brown colour that can occur from time to time has led to a number of customer complaints.
The plants include specially designed pressure filters and backwash facilities that enable the dissolved iron to be oxidised with chlorine so that it settles out of solution and can be removed in the filtration process.
More IRPs are planned for towns in the region.
