To ensure public health and safety, SA Water provides high quality drinking water.
How do we know we’re meeting water quality standards? The proof is in the testing. We undertake a comprehensive program of sampling and analysis every year.
Currently the water from 1500 locations across South Australia is sampled by expert field operators at varying frequencies and thousands of individual tests are conducted annually.
These test sites range from customer taps to various points along the River Murray and underground aquifers.
The samples are forwarded to a dedicated team of scientists, engineers and technicians based at our Australian Water Quality Centre (AWQC) who monitor, analyse and provide advice on water quality performance.
This service is also available to other organisations who readily call on our expert analytical, research and advisory services. AWQC’s expertise is relied upon by a wide range of State, national and international customers - including government departments, water-related industries, the environment sector, food and beverage industries, manufacturing and mining.
The research at AWQC is a key part of SA Water’s contribution to the community and the water industry. The AWQC hosts Australia’s head office of the Co-operative Research Centre for Water Quality and Treatment.
SA Water’s water quality objectives are consistent with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (ADWG).
