Overview

Every year, SA Water treats 95,000 megalitres (95,000,000,000 litres) of wastewater at its four plants serving metropolitan Adelaide. In 2004, SA Water completed its $240 million Environment Improvement Program. The aims of the program were to:

  • Increase the effectiveness of our metropolitan wastewater treatment plants
  • Reduce the amount of treated wastewater entering Gulf St Vincent
  • Recycle high quality treated wastewater for irrigation purposes

In this section of our website you can find out more about the individual projects at:

  • Bolivar - which has resulted in high quality treated wastewater being piped to vegetable growers on the Northern Adelaide Plains.
  • Port Adelaide - which is eliminating discharge of treated wastewater to the Port River.
  • Glenelg - where treated wastewater is being used to irrigate parks.
  • Christies Beach - which is providing treated wastewater to the important wine growing region of McLaren Vale.
