The Mount Pleasant Water Filtration Plant is the first plant in the world to use the revolutionary MIEX® (Magnetic Ion Exchange) Process.
MIEX® is a reusable polymer, developed after many years of research and team work by SA Water, Orica Watercare and the CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) Division of Molecular Science.
MIEX® reduces dissolved organic carbon (DOC) which is the main cause of colour, taste and odour in drinking water. Put simply, it works like a magnet, attracting dissolved matter in the water.
By removing these undesirables there is less need for chlorine, the water is clearer and the taste is also improved.
MIEX® delivers:
-
Cost effective removal of dissolved organic carbon
-
Significant reductions in disinfection by-product formation
-
Colour reduction
-
A continuous and flexible process that can adjust to wide variations in raw water quality
-
Significantly reduced coagulant doses and chemical volumes
-
Reduction in chlorine demand for disinfection
The resin can also be recycled through the plant again and again, removing the need for large resin stocks.
MIEXÒ resin has been described by some industry experts as “the best development in water treatment in fifty years” and is a simple to use, cost effective means to improve water quality.
