The health of the River Murray is vital to all Australians, but particularly so for South Australia. Our prosperity, our river environment, our communities across the State and our long term future depend on it.
SA Water collects the levy on behalf of the Department for Water.
Levy Collection
The levy is billed on your SA Water account – note that it doesn’t apply to customers who receive a concession on their water rates.
Amount to Pay 2011-12
The levy amount will be itemised on your accounts and how much you pay will be determined by your property type (also indicated on your account):
Residential: $9.35 per quarter Non residential/Commercial: $42.00 per quarter Special Category: $9.35 per quarter Farming Properties: Varies
Special Categories: include charitable organisations, places of public worship, schools and non-profit organisations. If you believe your property could fit one of these categories, you can confirm the amount by calling 1300 650 950.
Farming Properties: accounts for land holdings of 10 hectares or more will incur a quarterly levy charge of $42.00 while those smaller than 10 hectares will incur $9.35. Supplies provided under Supply by Measure arrangements will also incur the $9.35 charge.
The levy only applies per account, not per meter.
Farmers with multiple accounts who incur levy payments greater than $42.00 per quarter for a single farming enterprise will be eligible for a rebate that will limit their total payments for that enterprise to $42.00. To be eligible for a rebate, the associated land must be owned or occupied by the applicant and must be principally used for primary production and be managed as a single unit for that purpose.
If you believe you are eligible for a rebate, further information about the qualification criteria and application forms are available by calling 1300 650 950.
Not For Profit Organisations
If not for profit organisations can demonstrate they are incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 1985 they will be classified as Category 1. Category 1 incurs the lower levy of $9.35 per quarter in 2011-12 (opposed to the Category 2 levy of $42.00 per quarter in 2011-12).
If you think your not for profit organisation can apply for the Category 1 levy, you will need to provide evidence of being incorporated under the provisions of Associations Incorporation Act 1985. This will require a copy of the certificate of incorporation provided by the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs at the time of incorporation.
Alternatively, a duplicate certificate can be obtained from the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs for a nominal fee. Write to SA Water at GPO Box 1751, Adelaide SA 5001, enclosing the evidence of incorporation.
