Irrigated Public Open Space (IPOS)

With the introduction of the Code of Practice for Irrigated Public Open Space (IPOS) in 2008 it is possible for individual sites to maintain 'fit for purpose' sports ground or recreational areas while working towards maximum water efficiency.

IPOS was developed in conjunction with a range of industry professionals to provide a best practice guideline for the management of turf. By adopting IPOS a site will be afforded the flexibility to manage water use efficiency against benchmark irrigation targets that are appropriate to maintain turf health to a ‘fit for purpose’ standard.

IPOS aims to provide an alternative permit process under water restrictions that will afford more flexibility to demonstrate and achieve water use efficiency and avert public health and safety issues by retaining a ‘fit for purpose’ standard of turf relevant to each site.

By applying for and being granted an IPOS permit SA Water will provide benchmark irrigation targets for your site which can be used across multiple nights of the week between 8pm - 8am the following morning and as determined by the climate and your site conditions.

For further information telephone IPOS Administration on 7424 3719 or email iposadmin@sawater.com.au.
