SA Water, AdelaideAqua and the KESAB Clean Site Program continue their partnership to prevent pollution on the Adelaide Desalination Project site, to support and educate construction crews, and to achieve best practice environmental management. The partnership complements key environmental commitments made through the project Environmental Impact Statement.
Key initiatives include:
- Environmental Clean Site Toolbox presentations to construction crews
- Placement of environmental signs/banners with environmental messages
- Continuous improvement with waste management with a focus on maximising recycling
- Regular reporting and advertising the recycling performance for the project
- Creation of worker incentives to encourage participation and implementation of Clean Site messages
- Encouraging the use of sustainable building methods and products
- Investigate the use of local innovative products to assist with on site environmental measures.
As at November 2011, more than 97% of recyclable materials from the site have been recycled, including 15,285 tonnes of solid waste. The project partners are also recycling bottles and cans with all proceeds being donated to local community and charity groups.
KESAB Environmental Solutions is a non-government community based organisation and you can learn more about them at www.kesab.asn.au. SA Water and Contractors are pleased to be part of the program and are committed to continuing the partnership for effective outcomes at the Adelaide Desalination Project site.
