SA Water - What's New - Major Projects - North South Interconnection System Project
North South Interconnection System Project

The North South Interconnection System Project (NSISP) consists of a range of works which  'connect up' our northern and southern water supply networks.

Prior to the NSISP Adelaide's water supply system was roughly split at the River Torrens into a northern system (supplied through the Hope Valley and Anstey Hill Water Treatment Plants) and a southern system (supplied through the Happy Valley Water Treatment Plant). The NSISP now allows SA Water to move water across one connected system - improving water reliability for Adelaide. Water from the Adelaide Desalination Plant  is also being  distributed throughout the whole water supply network.

The NSISP was an important component of the State Government's Water for Good plan to secure water for the future.

What was delivered for the NSISP?

The NSISP has provided the following infrastructure elements:

  • Central Pipeline (Gilberton to Hope Valley)
  • Eastern Pipeline (Clapham to Wattle Park) and a small portion on Grand Junction Road (Hope Valley)
  • Northern Pipeline (Nelson Road)
  • Western Pipeline (Grange Road)

Pump Stations

  • Clapham Pump Station

  • Northern Pressure Reducing Valve Station (Gulfview Heights)
  • Seacliff Park Mini Hydro and Pressure Reducing Valve Station
