The Northern Pipeline Project will commence site activity in late July 2011. The Project involves pipe laying and associated works along the entire length of Nelson Road, Para Vista from Grand Junction Road across McIntyre Road and includes a section of Cornwall Drive, Gulfview Heights.
The project is being undertaken by the Fulton Hogan BJ Jarrad Joint Venture on behalf of SA Water and will involve a number. The three zones of work will be:
-
Nelson Road from Grand Junction Road to the roundabout at Montague Road
-
Nelson Road from 500 meters north of Montague Road, crossing McIntyre Rd and then along Cornwall Drive
-
Roundabout at the intersection of Nelson Road and Montague Road
Pre-Construction: July – August 2011
Early pre-construction activities will commence in late July 2011 and will involve establishing the site compound, preliminary survey and service location works, service relocations and saw-cutting of bitumen. These works will be undertaken over a period of approximately 3 weeks.
There may be some road restrictions at specific points dependent on what services we identify for relocation.
Construction: August – April 2012
It is expected that the main pipe laying activity will commence in August 2011 and be completed in April 2012. Works will be undertaken simultaneously on three work fronts:
-
Pipe laying on Nelson Road from Grand Junction Road to the vicinity of the roundabout at Nelson and Montague Roads.
-
Pipe laying on Nelson Road from 500 meters north of Montague Road, crossing McIntyre Rd and along a section of Cornwall Drive.
-
Microtunnelling under the roundabout at the intersection of Nelson Road and Montague Road.
Mircotunnelling
works will involve some temporary traffic restrictions to the southbound lanes of Nelson Road beyond the Montague Road roundabout. However while microtunnelling work is undertaken, traffic management will be in place to allow traffic flows to be maintained.
Pipe laying will involve a continually moving work zone of approximately 100 meters. This will impact on an individual property for a period of 2-3 days while the pipes are laid and the area is then backfilled and bituminised within 2 weeks.
Things you need to know:
-
Crews will generally be working between 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday.
-
Construction works may be directly adjacent a driveway for two to three days.
-
Access to a driveway may be temporarily restricted during construction work hours.
-
Every effort will be made by our construction crews to reduce disruption and accommodate special access requirements as necessary. For the majority of properties driveway access will be reinstated at the end of each working day.
-
We aim to maintain traffic access during these works. Please comply with all traffic signage and speed restrictions around the work zones.
February 2012 - Construction Update
The Northern Pipeline project, which involves the entire length of Nelson Road Para Vista and includes Cornwall Drive Gulfview Heights, is making progress with 65% of works already completed.
By mid February 2012, pipelaying works and road reinstatement will have been completed in the following sections :
-
Nelson Road from Grand Junction Road to Wright Road
-
Nelson Road from Wright Road to Montague Road
-
Nelson Road from Montague Road to Milne Road
-
Cornwall Drive
Works on the Montague Road roundabout will also be undertaken within the next few weeks.
The final section of pipelaying works along Nelson Road is currently underway between Milne Road and McIntyre Road. Three crews are operating in this section to ensure that the works are completed as safely and efficiently as possible. Until this section of works is complete, access for traffic between Milne Road and McIntyre Road will be via the northbound lane.
How we will contact you:
As this project will involve working on the roadway outside properties, we will provide advance notice of works to adjacent residents and businesses to keep them fully informed. Our community engagement team will visit residents and business owners at least 1 week before construction starts adjacent to their property to provide detail of the works and to identify any special needs. We will generally try to schedule visits in the early evening or over the weekend. Our construction crew will also visit a day two days before construction starts near the property to remind residents of any temporary access or parking changes
