SA Water is managing preliminary works to provide access for construction vehicles should a temporary weir near Pomanda be required in the future.
The construction of these access road works is not a decision to build a weir but is a necessary preparation in case reduced flows in the River Murray continue. The State Government does not wish to construct the temporary weir and this preliminary work will enable a decision to build a temporary weir to be delayed for as long as possible.
Please read the fact sheet for more detailed information.
The western site work started in February 2009 and involved the upgrade of Nalpa Station Road and construction of a private road through Nalpa Station. After receiving the necessary approvals, this was extended with the construction of a causeway to Pomanda Island, through to the weir abutment. The eastern site work involved the construction of a private road off Eckerts Road, through Wellington Lodge to near the eastern abutment.
Please view the map which highlights the stage 1 and stage 2 work areas.
