Victor Harbor Wastewater Treatment Plant

The $42 million Victor Harbor Wastewater Treatment Plant was commissioned in late 2005 (replacing the plant built in 1972) to cater for the growing population of Victor Harbor.

The nearby Hindmarsh Valley Reservoir stores high quality treated wastewater from the plant for reuse.

SA Water is currently working with the City of Victor Harbor to prepare a master plan for recycled water to be used in irrigation for the city and surrounds to help reduce demand on the drinking water supplies.

As part of the recycled water master plan there is a review of the treatment processes required under the new Australian Water Recycling Guidelines.

Along with increasing the number of existing recycled water customers, the plan will identify how the entire system should be operated accounting for seasonal demands, Inman River discharge and Hindmarsh Valley Reservoir storage.

SA Water and the City of Victor Harbor have convened a technical working group to coordinate the interests of Council and the local community in the delivery of a recycled water scheme for the city and surrounds.

A Stakeholder Forum has also been formed by SA Water and the City of Victor Harbor and comprises local interest groups, economic development representatives and the Adelaide Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board. This forum provides opportunities for members to be informed of discussions about the delivery of recycled water to Victor Harbor and potential future uses for the former wastewater treatment plant land.
