SA Water is currently reviewing South Australia's 17 large dams (reservoirs) to make sure they meet current world standards. An upgrade program has been established to meet national and international standards for best practice management and safety of dam structures. These upgrades commenced in 1999 and are continuing until 2010.
When the program is completed, the safety of the structures will be improved and the dams will have improved protection against floods and earthquakes.
Detailed reviews and dam safety upgrade work is underway for the Hindmarsh Valley, Little Para, Millbrook, and Kangaroo Creek Reservoirs.
