A new $42 million wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) project at Victor Harbor has recently been commissioned in late 2005 under a $42 million project.
The old plant, commissioned in 1972, was unable to adequately serve Victor Harbor's growing population.
Featuring leading edge technology, the new facility treats wastewater to an exceptionally high standard suitable for a wide range of reuse options including irrigation of farmlands, parks and gardens. Hindmarsh Valley reservoir (taken out of water supply service) stores treated wastewater for reuse and ensures managed discharge of treated wastewater into the Inman River. A reduction of the nutrient content in the treated wastewater is good news for the river and Encounter Bay's precious marine environment.
The plant incorporates an immersed membrane bioreactor (MBR) treatment process - the first use of MBR for a major municipal wastewater treatment plant in Australia.
