South Australia faces significant challenges in relation to water supply and management. 

The Water Proofing Adelaide Strategy was developed to address water supply challenges while recognising the need to promote economic growth, through increased population and commercial development.  Industry uses approximately 20,000ML or twenty billion litres of mains water per year.

The Water Proofing Adelaide Strategy targets a number of water use areas including, residential, primary production, business and community purpose. The target for the business sector is to reduce water consumption by 2,000ML (10%) per annum.  By reaching this target businesses can ensure they are contributing to their own long term viability, and that of the state. 

Saving water in your business has the potential to reduce costs and improve overall economic, environmental and social sustainability. It will also help secure South Australia’s future water supply, by contributing to the Government's overall Water Proofing Adelaide target of a 44% annual reduction in mains and groundwater use by 2025.
