Leigh Creek Desalination Plant

Leigh Creek Desalination Plant

In December 2016 we took over the management of water services in Leigh Creek from Flinders Power.

Leigh Creek was built by the State Government in 1982 to support the then State-owned electricity company.  Since the announcement of the mine closure at Leigh Creek a cabinet submission recommended that the SA State Government support services in Leigh Creek for five years, appointing us to manage the towns water supply.  Leigh Creek draws drinking water from a number of local bores.  Due to the relatively high salinity of the ground water supply, a small desalination plant is used to treat the water.

The plant is capable of producing up to1.25ML of drinking water per day.
