In August we installed pressure sensors in Kadina as part of a trial aimed to reduce the number of burst and leaks in the town.
The trial was a success and now we are to make permanent the sensors in Kadina.
Daily water pressure variations can impact the inside of pipes. Pressure is usually highest overnight and during low demand periods. This can place stress on water mains and lead to bursts and leaks. The data collected by the sensors helped adjust existing pressure reducing valves.
Following the trial no bursts or leaks have been attributed to pressure in the town so far this year.
The trial will continue in Kadina until the permanent solution is installed later this year.
Following this we will look to introduce the use of sensors and active water pressure management in other areas of the state.
The sensors provide valuable information, which help field crews resolve issues before they can cause disruption to the community.
As part of the permanent solution, a third pressure sensor will be installed in Kadina’s later this year. Other related infrastructure will also be upgraded at this time.
This work is expected to result in only minor traffic disruptions. All relevant stakeholders will be notified before the project begins.
