Mount Barker Irrigation Scheme

Mount Barker Irrigation Scheme

Mount Barker District Council and SA Water are working together to establish an irrigation precinct in the eastern Mount Lofty Ranges stretching from Mount Barker to Murray Bridge. The precinct will distribute recycled water from Council’s wastewater treatment plant and untreated River Murray water from SA Water’s Murray Bridge–Onkaparinga Pipeline to contracted customers.

Currently Mount Barker district produces approximately 1.4 GL/yr. of recycled water. Due to growth within Mount Barker, the supply of recycled water is expected to increase to 3.6 GL/yr. by 2045. The proposal is to create a ‘green industrial scheme’ where the above flows are supplemented by the Murray Bridge–Onkaparinga Pipeline supply. As the recycled volumes increase, the Murray Bridge–Onkaparinga Pipeline flows will be reduced. The expected combined volume of the scheme is 5 GL/yr initially. However, this is flexible, and it may be possible to accommodate larger projects.

If you have an existing business, or are considering investing in a new business that would benefit from access to recycled waste water please download the Registration of Interest form, complete it, and email it to businessdevelopment@sawater.com.au.
