Benefits flow to developers as SA Water withdraws charges

SA Water has withdrawn several augmentation charges, benefiting anyone looking to develop in the Yorke Peninsula, Fleurieu Peninsula, South East and Northern Adelaide areas.

As part of SA Water’s commitment to the development industry, a number of the existing augmentation charges across the state are being reviewed, with the process expected to be complete by the end of the year.

SA Water’s Senior Manager of Business Development Mark Wilson said the charges were introduced to pay for infrastructure upgrades to support expected growth and development in several regions.

“An assessment of current and future population growth and water and wastewater demands in some of these areas has determined that augmentation charges were no longer required,” Mark said.

“Subsequently, the Ardrossan/Tiddy Widdy Beach, Bordertown, Coobowie and South Coast Water Augmentation Charges were withdrawn as of June 2016.

“This follows the review and removal of the Copper Coast Water Augmentation Charge earlier this year.”

In addition, the Burton and Northern Suburbs Sewer Augmentation Charges were also withdrawn in June.

“This is a fantastic outcome for developers in these areas who will benefit from the withdrawal of these charges, and it provides them with the opportunity to pass on these savings to the end user,” Mark said.

“We are committed to supporting the development industry now and into the future, as it forms an integral role in the economic growth and prosperity of South Australia.

“The money collected to date through the augmentation charges is expected to be sufficient to deliver the necessary infrastructure for these locations over the next 30 years.

“We will also continue to monitor local population growth and water and wastewater demands to ensure we can adequately support industry and residents.”

Augmentation charges will not apply to Development Applications received after the withdrawal date.
