SA Water has confirmed the township of Owen will continue to be supplied by the Swan Reach drinking water system for the foreseeable future.
Owen was switched from the Barossa Valley drinking water system in the wake of the Pinery fire in November 2015, which damaged SA Water’s Redbanks storage tank.
The supply switch was made so SA Water could complete infrastructure repairs without disrupting supply.
Although Redbanks storage tank repairs are complete, Janina Morrison, SA Water’s Senior Manager of Water Treatment & Quality, says Owen will continue to be serviced by SA Water’s Swan Reach system.
“The Swan Reach drinking water system has now successfully supplied Owen for two months,” Janina said.
“From an operational perspective, there is currently no reason to revert the supply back to the Barossa system.
“We will continue to monitor Owen’s supply and consider our future options.”
Around 215 mid-north customers were involved in the switch in early December, which moved Owen from a chlorinated supply to a chloraminated supply.
SA Water will continue to monitor the supply switch and assess if any changes are necessary.
