Peter signs off after 45 years of service

Hillcrest man, Peter Wood has received an award in recognition for his 45 years of dedicated service with SA Water.

After joining SA Water as an Apprentice Fitter in 1972, Peter quickly progressed to managing a 20-person team in the Trades Division where he worked for 20 years.

He transferred to an office job in the early 1990s, securing a role as Mains Extension Officer, before reaching the 45 year milestone with the Corporation’s Land Developments department this month.

Peter’s supervisor, Connections Manager, Nick Turich, said Peter is a wonderful mentor to staff and his knowledge is not only valued by his colleagues, but by SA Water’s customers too.

“He is a highly skilled Land Development Officer and has organised mains water and sewerage connections and extensions for thousands of customers building new homes or subdividing their land,” Nick said.

The business receives over 300 hundred land division requests from home owners and property developers partitioning blocks each month.

“We’re fortunate at SA Water to have highly skilled, dedicated people working to provide vital services for communities across the state. Peter’s knowledge of South Australia’s terrain ensures many rural customers receive the essential services we take for granted in the metro area, such as mains water and sewerage,” Nick said.

With over four decades of experience in the workplace, Peter’s advice to younger people, starting their careers in our increasingly connected world, is simple.

“It has been wonderful to be part of a great team. I’ve been happy working for SA Water and I’m proud to have reached this 45 year milestone,” Peter said.

“Focus on your work and work hard, but let go of it when you are not at work,” said Peter.

As he looks forward to retiring this winter, motorcycle enthusiast Peter is planning to spend more time on his bike and with his Tenterfield Terrier rescue dog, Dee.

In acknowledgement of Peter’s loyalty he received a gift and a certificate signed by SA Water’s Chief Executive Roch Cheroux at a special presentation held at the company’s Head Office in Victoria Square.

“SA Water employees are not only members of staff, they are customers too, and valued members of our community. So the service awards are a small token of our appreciation of colleagues, like Peter, who have shown exceptional commitment,” Nick said.
