South Australian students to absorb all things water

South Australian students to absorb all things water

Popular in-school shows and theatre performances are being reintroduced as the focus of SA Water’s education program, Brainwave, for 2016.

Just Add Water will be available to schools at theatres in some regional areas and Slippery Stuff will be brought to students in the Adelaide metropolitan area.

SA Water’s General Manager of Customer and Community Relations Kerry Rowlands said both shows were run several years ago, but have now been updated and added back into the program.

Slippery Stuff explains the science behind the treatment of our water and sewage,” Kerry said.

“This interactive show is performed in-school, taking away the travel hassle for teachers.

“In Just Add Water, the show’s hosts use spectacular science experiments combined with humour to teach the audience more about the importance of our water resources.

“This theatre show is available for classes to attend in Renmark and Port Pirie.

“Our other popular workshops, Poo Do-Gurus, Follow That Drop, Sustainability Challenge and Living Loan incursions are also again being offered this year through Brainwave.”

More than 93,000 students have taken part in Brainwave, since its inception in 2009.

Brainwave supports the Australian Curriculum in three main areas – geography, science and sustainability.

“As part of the program, guided tours of SA Water sites are also being run this year at Happy Valley Water Treatment Plant, Christies Beach and Bolivar Wastewater Treatment Plants and the Adelaide Desalination Plant (ADP),” Kerry said.

“At the ADP, students take part in several activities and are shown through the Kauwi Interpretive Centre.

“More than 1300 school students visited the centre in 2015, which is also open to the general public for community tours.”
