We don't retrospectively apply revised or newly-issued conditions within guidelines to existing pre-treatment installations that we have previously approved, providing you:

  • comply with the original discharge permit conditions
  • do not create operational problems in the sewerage system.

Approved Basic Trade Waste Pre-treatment Products

  • The list has been updated to incorporate the latest products for GRAF Australia (passive grease arrestors, the ‘Diamant’ models)and for Halgan (Oil Water Separators, the ‘OWHS’ models).
Basic Pre-treatment Devices – Design, Installation and Accessibility1/12/2018
  • The name has changed from “Basic Pre-treatment Devices Accessibility” to “Basic Pre-treatment Devices – Design, Installation and Accessibility”.
  • Section “Other matters” -  Specific explanations were added about a trade waste disconnector gully, pumped waste to a grease arrestor and the minimum length of a drain gravitating to an arrestor. Businesses needing a pre-treatment device greater than 5000L/h require flow meter installation.
Commercial Food Preparation and Service1/12/2018
  • Under the “Specific minimum capacities for certain activities” table: the list of business types not requiring a grease arrestor installation has been expanded to include the retail coffee shops, ice cream parlours (with no production on site)and juice/bubble tea/smoothies bars. The description for this category has been also expanded to include more examples.
Changes to retail coffee shop pre-treatment requirements1/12/2018
  • New fact sheet aiming to inform about important pre-treatment requirement change: grease arrestors are no longer required for retail coffee shops with no food preparation or cooking on site.
