Help prepare for Ceduna water main upgrade

Beginning tonight and continuing the following two Wednesday evenings, SA Water will undertake essential upgrades to Ceduna’s drinking water network, to improve the reliability of supply for the 3500 people who live in and around the coastal town.

Work will target the water transfer main which receives Ceduna’s drinking water after it has been piped from either the Uley South Basin bore field on lower Eyre Peninsula, or through the 379 kilometre pipeline from the Morgan Water Treatment Plant in the Riverland.

SA Water’s General Manager of Asset Operations and Delivery Mark Gobbie said the upgrade works will require the transfer main to be temporarily disconnected over the three Wednesday nights.

“We hope to maintain normal continuous water supply throughout the works by connecting several water tankers into the network, but if water demand is higher than the tankers can cater for, temporary interruptions may be experienced,” he said.

“The upgrade works have been scheduled for overnight periods when most people’s water usage is lowest, to minimise the chance of temporary supply interruptions and inconvenience for our customers.”

The transfer main upgrade works will take place:

* 8pm Wednesday 13 June to 8am Thursday 14 June
* 8pm Wednesday 20 June to 6am Thursday 21 June
* 8pm Wednesday 27 June to 6am Thursday 28 June

“There are a number of practical things you can do in advance to help reduce water demand during this period, and prepare for potential temporary supply interruptions,” Mark said.

“Consider running the dishwasher or washing machine earlier in the day, refrigerating a jug of water for drinking overnight, and filling a bucket with water for any light cleaning.

“During the nights when construction work is being undertaken, we encourage you to only turn on the tap for essential needs like drinking, brushing your teeth and flushing the toilet.

“We appreciate that any interruption to mains-supplied water is inconvenient and thank our Ceduna customers in advance for their patience, while we complete this important upgrade to improve the security of the town’s water supply.”
