SA Water partners up with nine new community groups

A new marine scientists club for children aged 7-13 years, an aquatic therapy program and a community garden for regional South Australians in need are among the nine successful recipients of financial and in-kind support announced today as part of SA Water's Community Partnerships Program for 2020-21.

The annual program supports local community groups delivering water-related events and projects that foster a better life in local communities across regional and metropolitan South Australia.

SA Water's General Manager Customers, Strategy and Innovation Anna Jackson said the call for proposals from community groups and projects resulted in a terrific response.

"It's clear that so many of our customers have ideas and events that make a difference to the lives of others and we are looking forward to can't wait to support this group of nine amazing recipients throughout the coming year as their initiatives come to fruition," Anna said.

"Water plays such an important role in society, and beyond its importance to public health and use for fitness and recreational activities, is vital in sustaining employment and economic development in communities across South Australia."

Other successful events or projects include supporting SA-based charity Can:Do to create an independent skills laundry in Noarlunga for children and adults with hearing or vision impairments, and providing financial support to the Clare Agriculture and Horticulture Society to promote sustainable watering and gardening practices at the annual SA Autumn Garden Festival.

"We are also partnering with St Mary's College in Adelaide to roll-out an education and seed propagation program with students from other schools, to share Ideas with others on the importance of water conservation, and supporting ACE Open to deliver a contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts exhibition celebrating the cultural connection with water," Anna said.
