Follow the flow – Geostop 4
Again, you’re at a crossroads, in view of a road around the reservoir. You must decide to go left or right. Move along Track 2 in the direction that cars in the lane closest to you travel. You’ll find your clue where this path meets another.
You have now completed around one quarter (2.23km) of your 9km journey.
Happy Valley Reservoir Reserve is home to South Australia’s largest and highest capacity water treatment plant, which treats 300 million litres of water a day on average.
That’s the equivalent of 1.2 billion cups of water every day.
The plant uses a combination of physical and chemical processes to treat water from the reservoir. Screens stop large debris entering sedimentation tanks, where water moves slowly across a large distance so that gravity can pull large particles out of the water. From here, filters remove even finer particles before any remaining biological contaminants are destroyed through UV and chlorine disinfection. This series of process steps produces water that it is safe to drink and meets strict water quality guidelines.
