Service Rent

Service Rent

Service Rent is an annual fee charged by SA Water. It recovers costs associated with:

  • reading the additional meter
  • maintaining records
  • maintaining and replacing the additional meter

How is it applied?

A Service Rent charge is applied to properties with an additional water meter. If your property is in a metropolitan area or a country township, only one meter is allowed. If your property is in a country lands district, one water meter is allowed for every 250 hectares of contiguous rateable land.

This charge is not applied to accounts where the additional meter supplies another account (common supply). However, Service Rent does apply to common supply accounts where there are more meters than the number of properties in the group. For example, three meters supplying only two properties.

When is it charged?

The Service Rent charge is normally charged in either the 3rd or 4th billing quarter. It is calculated on how many months in a financial year your property had more meters installed than allowed. If you install or disconnect a meter within the financial year, a charge may apply for that month.

It is not applicable to recycled water meters, unless they are part of the GARWS scheme (Glenelg Adelaide Recycled Water Scheme).

If there are one or more drinking water or recycled water meters recorded on the same account, only each additional drinking water meter will be charged.
